G8 Pro V2 by Guardian 8 Corporation
The G8 Pro V2 is an enhanced nonlethal, lightweight duty belt device designed to arm security guards. Legal to use in all 50 U.S. states as well as internationally, this tool provides multiple layers of defense, a command center communication link, and incident recordings of both audio and images.
An alternative to traditional security devices such as batons, pepper spray, and weaponized flashlights that tend to focus on the user/threat interaction, the G8 Pro V2 integrates several non-lethal technologies and a communications platform for a safer personal defense solution.
The G8 Pro V2’s layered defense is deployed via three distinct actions; arming the unit, partially pulling the trigger, and fully pulling the trigger. Each action delivers a different response which provides users maximum flexibility when responding to threatening subjects. These layered defense levels include: Level 1—the G8 Pro V2 laser spotter, high resolution HD camera, and autorecord functionality can be used in an attempt to modify a subject’s behavior; Level 2—guards can send a pre-recorded message via their mobile phone, enable push-to-talk communication with the command center, and use an alerting siren and strobe light to call attention to the incident and disorient the subject; and Level 3—users can activate O.C. pepper spray to incapacitate aggressive subjects from up to 10′ away.
The G8 Pro V2 provides ambidextrous controls, a rechargeable battery with capacity gauge, and a user interface that offers facility managers the flexibility to control or deactivate features to suit their security policies and protocols. The product measures 6.9″ H x 1.5″ W x 5.8″ D, weighs approximately 8 ounces loaded, and has an operating range of 0°F to 120°F.…

If you have never considered the safety risks of a professional security officer, consider that according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), over the course of the past eight years, the fatality rate in this line of work has been twice the national average. The exception during that time was 2005, when security guard fatality risk was 67 percent higher than the rest of industry. Your guards are undoubtedly aware of the risk, and they may have even shared a “close call” story with you.
BLS data reveals that more than 60 percent of guard deaths are the result of a violent act, as opposed to falls or other causes. This alarming statistic is evidence that security officers are being outmatched when it comes to defending themselves at their post. An informal survey I ran on LinkedIn validates this observation — 56 percent of the guards that responded indicated that the only items on their duty belt were a radio and/or handcuffs.
Considering these statistics, it is clear that security officers need tools that can help them do their job and protect themselves from violence. Enhanced non-lethal (ENL) devices are designed to help officers protect themselves, while being sensitive to their clients’ concerns towards risk. The goal of ENL devices is to provide “enhanced presence” and de-escalate the potential for conflict by presenting a stronger image of authority to an aggressor.
Today, there are a number of sensible options available for security officers to achieve “enhanced presence” with non-lethal tools — they include ENL devices, conducted energy weapons (stun), weaponized flashlights, batons and pepper spray. But before you can determine the right tool, you must accurately depict the role of your officers.…

Walking the Show Floor at ISC West 2013
By Claire Meyer April 11, 2013
What do I look forward to at ISC West? Well, besides the annual treat of wearing my most comfortable almost-slippers to walk the show floor, the innovations, of course! But the motivation behind a lot of those innovations can be a much more interesting topic, and many of the booths I visited today shared some common factors, albeit realized in very different products.
Take a gander at some of my favorite trends of the day:
Added Business Intelligence
This was a popular one at many booths, including Axis, Avigilon and Milestone. By using built-in capabilities – typically reserved for security-only uses – for different applications, these companies are engineering additional ways to add to ROI while increasing security’s reputation as a key enterprise player.
Also, Axis has teamed up with the Wentworth Institute of Technology to develop applications that would run on the company’s cameras, much like apps on an iPhone. Two students came with their productions, including a facial-recognition software (called “Project Alibi”) designed to clock people in and out of facilities – managing attendance and alerting officials when an unrecognized figure enters a space. Another student project added 3-D motion tracking into the Axis camera system – setting alarm specifications that alert when a figure moves closer in the depth of field to the camera, but does nothing when the person stays outside a predetermined radius.
Ease of Use
Intuitive or user-focused products also had a strong showing today – I saw gorgeous, Apple-inspired (or so it seems to this iPhone addict) VMS, identity management and mass notification systems from Avigilon, Keyscan and Code Blue (respectively). Bold design with easy-to-understand (and easy-to-install, according to company representatives) …

Guardian 8 Corporation, a provider of innovative personal safety and security tools, today introduced a new class of defense products with the debut of the G8 Pro V2 at ISC West 2013, April 10-12, at the Sands Convention Center in Las Vegas. The product is the first in a new category of security products called enhanced non-lethals (ENL).
Available in the 2nd quarter for online sales, the G8 Pro V2 is a lightweight, duty-belt device designed to arm security guards with a single tool that provides multiple layers of defense, a command center communication link and automatic incident recordings of both audio and images.
“Liability, risk and state laws prevent security guards from using conventional law enforcement tools or other personal security devices, causing them to feel under-equipped to handle threatening situations,” said Steve Cochennet, Guardian 8’s CEO. “The G8 Pro V2 provides a total solution that we believe will revolutionize the professional security industry. For less than the cost of a smart phone, security guards now have all the vital tools they need in a single portable device to take appropriate non-lethal actions mitigating risk and loss.”
The Importance of ENLs
ENL devices, like the G8 Pro V2, can be used as an alternative to traditional security devices such as batons, pepper spray, and weaponized flashlights. These traditional security tools focus on the user/threat interaction, and do not provide guards with a solution for communicating with authorities and supervisors or for documenting the nature and sequence of an engagement. The G8 Pro V2 is the only solution available that is legal to use in all 50 states as well as internationally and fully integrates several non-lethal technologies and a communications platform to provide a safer, personal defense solution.
