Lubbock medical center to purchase 40 units, staff training
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- Feb. 4, 2015 -- Covenant Health in Lubbock, Texas, has agreed to purchase 40 “Pro V2” non-lethal defense devices from Scottsdale, Ariz.-based Guardian 8 Corporation. The purchase includes training for 10 instructors.
The Pro V2 is used by security personnel at hospitals and medical centers to defuse situations before they escalate.
“We are always looking for ways to improve security at our medical center to keep our patients and employees safe,” said Steve Barker, Covenant Health Director of Security and Parking. “We feel the Pro V2 is cutting edge technology that will make us a leader when it comes to security, while reducing our liability risk.”
The Pro V2 offers three levels of defense. First, a red laser beam is directed at an aggressor. A digital camera and audio recording are automatically activated so there is a permanent record – an increasingly important feature at a time when many are calling for body cameras for the nation’s police.
When the incident reaches the second level, a Bluetooth™ communication link is activated connecting the security officer with another party, such as supervisors or police. A disorienting alert siren and strobe light are initiated. If the situation escalates further, a stream of pepper spray can be released at the aggressor.
Hospital security teams using the Pro V2 successfully de-escalated incidents in Connecticut and Massachusetts. Platinum Event Services at the Cotton Bowl stadium in Dallas used Pro V2 units to stop a crime in progress, and later to avoid a false claim of excessive use of force.
“Covenant Health joins a growing list of companies and institutions that are turning to the Pro V2 to protect their employees and the general public,” said Guardian 8 CEO Steve Cochennet. “We’re working to bring the latest technology to the security industry to make security safer, stronger, smarter and better.”
The Pro V2 is designed for use in a variety of settings, including hospitals, major theme parks, university and school campuses, and shopping malls.
